Provenance Review
Concise historical due diligence for a single yacht.
A short, source-referenced review of what the record currently supports about a vessel: its original identity, its builder and designer, the ownership chronology that is publicly documented, and the points where the history is unclear.
What the work covers
A review establishes what the historical record actually supports before a decision is made — a purchase, a restoration brief, a publication. It is deliberately concise: the identity of the vessel, the yard and designer behind her, the ownership chain that can be documented publicly, and the refits that changed her.
Where sources disagree, both readings are given with their origin. Where the record simply stops, the gap is written into the file rather than closed with inference.
The review is a documentary exercise. It is not a survey, a valuation or a legal opinion, and it does not attempt to confirm ownership information that is not publicly available.
Scope examples
- Original identity and known former names
- Builder and designer history
- Ownership chronology where publicly documented
- Major refit and restoration timeline
- Archive and registry source review
- Conflicts, gaps and unverified claims
Deliverable
A concise PDF research file covering identity and former names, builder and designer history, documented ownership chronology, refit and restoration timeline, the archives and registries consulted, and a clearly separated list of conflicts, gaps and unverified claims.
How findings are classified
- Documented fact
- Supported by a primary or archival source that is named and locatable.
- Reported claim
- Published or widely repeated, but without a primary source behind it.
- Conflicting source
- Two or more records disagree; both readings are given with their origin.
- Unverified detail
- Plausible but unsupported at the time of writing, and marked as such.
- Source citation
- Every statement carries its reference, including the archive or collection.
What this is not
- Not a technical survey
- Not a legal opinion
- Not a title guarantee
- Not a valuation certificate
